The Hunt of a Lifetime, Within Reach

Africa is closer, and more affordable, than you think

For most American hunters, an African safari sits on the bucket list as a someday dream, too far, too complicated, too expensive. Jericho exists to prove the opposite. From the moment you clear customs in Port Elizabeth to the day your trophies arrive at your door, we handle the hard parts so you can focus on the hunt.

You will spot-and-stalk free-range kudu, gemsbok and springbok across a hundred thousand acres of mountain, valley and open Karoo plain, stay in the family's own home on the farm, eat around the table with us, and pay one clear price in US dollars. No malaria pills. No language barrier. No surprises. Just the wild, fair-chase Africa you have been picturing for years.

Fair Chase, Free Range

The Karoo hunt American hunters cross the world for

This is real hunting. There are no fences around your trophy and no guarantees handed to you, only wild animals on wild ground and a professional hunter who knows every ridge of it. You will glass at first light, climb for a better angle, and earn the shot.

The Eastern Cape is South Africa's most diverse hunting region, holding everything from diminutive mountain reedbuck to heavy-horned kudu and Cape eland. Our terrain runs from rugged koppies to wide grass plains, so every day of your safari looks and hunts differently.

Four-Generation Legacy

You are not booking a lodge. You are hunting with a family that has worked this land for a century.

Malaria-Free Karoo

No pills, no worries. Ideal for first-time African hunters and for bringing the whole family.

Truly All-Inclusive

A bed in the family farmhouse, home-cooked meals, your professional hunter, field prep and trophy transport, all handled.

Airport transfers, rifle import or hire, trophy dipping, packing and shipping. You just hunt.

Why Hunt With Jericho

Why hunters choose South Africa, and Jericho

Unmatched variety in one trip

South Africa offers more huntable species than anywhere on earth, and the Eastern Cape concentrates the best of them. In a single week you can take a spiral-horned kudu, a desert-adapted gemsbok, a black wildebeest and a springbok, animals that would take three separate trips elsewhere.

Honest, fair-chase hunting

Our game is free-range and wild across vast, low-fenced terrain. You earn every trophy on foot with a rifle, the way hunting is meant to be. Conservation through sustainable hunting is why the Eastern Cape holds more game today than it has in a century.

Genuine value in US dollars

A plains-game safari at Jericho costs a fraction of a guided elk or sheep hunt back home, and includes far more. Daily rates, farmhouse lodging, home-cooked meals and a professional hunter are bundled into one transparent USD package, with trophy fees clearly listed up front.

A family, not a factory

We host one group at a time. That means the farmhouse is yours, your PH is yours, and your hunt moves at your pace. Four generations of the Bouwer family have built their name on it, and most of our hunters come back, or send their friends.

The Stalk

Spot, plan, and close the distance on foot with your professional hunter. Back at camp, a hearty lunch and a midday rest while the heat builds.

Plan Your Hunt

Getting here is easier than you think

Fly into Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) and we will meet you at the airport. From rifles to trophies, we handle the parts that keep most hunters from booking.

Airport & Transfers

Most US hunters route through OR Tambo (Johannesburg), then a short domestic hop to Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha), where we collect you and drive to the farm.

Bring Your Rifle, or Hire Ours

We send your invitation letter and walk you through US Customs Form 4457 and the SAPS temporary import permit. Prefer no paperwork? Hire one of our rifles for $100/day.

Taxidermy & Shipping

Trophies are field-prepped and delivered to Karoo Taxidermy in Graaff-Reinet, who handle dipping, packing and shipping straight to your door in the States.

Best Time to Hunt

Prime plains-game season runs through the South African winter (roughly April to September), with comfortable days and excellent stalking conditions across the Karoo.

Do I need malaria medication for the Eastern Cape?

No. Jericho is located in the malaria-free Eastern Cape Karoo, so no antimalarial pills are required. It is one of the reasons it is ideal for first-time African hunters and for bringing the family.

How much does an African plains-game hunt cost?

Our all-inclusive packages run from $3,500 for the Management Hunt to $9,000 for the Ultimate Karoo Hunt. You can also build your own hunt from the trophy fee list above. Packages cover your stay on the farm, home-cooked meals, drinks, your professional hunter and field preparation. Flights, taxidermy and shipping are extra.

When is the best time of year to hunt at Jericho?

Prime season runs through the South African winter, roughly April to September, with cool mornings, comfortable days and excellent stalking conditions. We hunt year-round, but winter offers the best visibility and the most pleasant weather for spot-and-stalk hunting.

Can I bring my own rifle into South Africa?

Yes. You will need US Customs Form 4457 (completed before you leave) and a SAPS temporary import permit, plus our invitation letter, and we walk you through all of it. You may bring up to four firearms (no two of the same caliber) and 200 rounds per rifle. Prefer no paperwork? Hire one of our rifles for $100 a day.

What rifle and caliber should I bring?

A scoped bolt-action in a common plains-game caliber is ideal. Anything from a .270 Winchester through .30-06, 7mm Remington Magnum or a .300 magnum will comfortably handle everything from springbok to eland. Bring quality soft-point ammunition, or simply use one of our rifles when you arrive.

Do US citizens need a visa for South Africa?

No. US passport holders do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. Your passport should be valid for at least 30 days beyond your departure date and have at least two blank pages. We provide an invitation letter to support your temporary firearm permit.

How do my trophies get home to the USA?

After the hunt your trophies are skinned and field-prepped, then delivered to Karoo Taxidermy in Graaff-Reinet for dipping and packing, which is required for export. A shipping agent then handles the export permits and ships your trophies directly to your door in the States.

How physically demanding is the hunt?

As demanding as you want it to be. Most plains-game hunting is spot-and-stalk on foot over uneven ground, so reasonable fitness makes it more enjoyable. That said, we tailor the pace to each hunter, and easier, vehicle-supported hunting is available for those who prefer it.

Can non-hunters and family come along?

Absolutely. Jericho is a family farm, and observers and non-hunters are welcome at $200 a day. There is plenty for the whole family to enjoy on and around the property, from the farm itself to the wide-open Karoo.

Are gratuities expected, and how do I pay?

Tipping your professional hunter and the staff is customary if you have enjoyed your safari, and is entirely at your discretion. We confirm accepted payment methods for package and trophy fees when you book, so there are no surprises at the farm.
